Pecha Kucha

PECHA KUCHA, Vancouver
“Pecha Kucha is a mix of show-and-tell, open-mike night and happy hour. It has become the forum for ideas on design, creativity and a lot more that has swept the world and is now taking place in over 168 cities globally. The rules are simple: show 20 slides and talk about each for 20 seconds, then sit down. Pecha Kucha brings together Vancouver’s culturally minded to enjoy an hour and a half of inspiration, viewpoints and ideas on creativity, culture and design by our City’s own cultural makers. “

In the 6min and 40 seconds that Dolly had, she took the audience on a tour through her history of community celebrations, the power of collective, collaborative dreaming and ritual, and her passion for fire.

Recognition Night
Vancouver, Canada, 2004-2008

Dolly was brought on as the Consultant, designer, producer for several Vancity Credit Union events throughout 2004-2008. A central event during that time was the annual Vancity Recognition Night to honour and recognize their employees.

As one example of these theme based annual events, 2008 was based on a “Super Member Night” which treated the employees as Super-Stars. The New-Hollywood/Awards Night theme included a Red Carpet treatment, complete with Paparazzi and a TV interview personality, creating a unique experience as employees arrived. Live performances, an Awards Ceremony, exquisite lighting and decor rounded out the experience for the guests.

Athens Olympics
Athens, Greece, 2004

Dolly, in association with Public Dreams Society, was engaged as the Artistic Director of “The Fire Weavers”, representing Canada in Athens, Greece, at “The City Celebrates” during the 2004 Summer Olympics. Working with the Canadian Embassy in Athens, Dolly conceptualized, designed and produced these tremendously popular fire performances. The show was picked up by the local Greek National TV Station (ET-1), increasing the audience size each evening. Feedback from the Canadian Embassy was the phone lines were flooded with inquiries about the performance, and where and when “The Fire Weavers” would be performing next.
