September: Wild Salmon Month!

The month of September is Wild Salmon Month in Vancouver! As the season begins to change, what a great time to check out a series of events happening throughout the City, organized by the False Creek Watershed Society. These events give us a chance to connect to the ancient wild environment that surrounds us here in Vancouver- check it out!

Sept 12 – Musqueam Creek – Vancouver’s last wild salmon stream  – walk with Terry Point

Sept 13 – Gibby’s Field – part of China Creek’s once-vast system – walk with Dan Fass

Sept 19 – Tatlow and Macdonald Creek – from wild native creek to cityscape – walk with Bruce MacDonald

Sept 19 – Lake at the Head Creek – Dunbar’s wild coho heritage – walk with Terry Slack

Sept 20 – Vancover’s Last Steelhead Run – walk with Terry Slack

Sept 26 – False Creek Seawall to Senakw – walk with Chief Bill Williams

SALMON CELEBRATION

“Remembering Our History, Celebrating the Living”
The 6th annual “Salmon Celebration” will take place on BC Rivers Day,
Sept 27th 2009 in Vanier Park, near the Vancouver Maritime Museum.
12PM – 430 PM

The Salmon Celebration is a FREE EARTH AND WATER FESTIVAL AND PARADE for all ages to:
- honour the spirit of the salmon that historically lived in the streams that flowed into Eastern False Creek
- connect the urban public with local groups who study salmon, save wilderness and encourage urban sustainability
- We are also proud to be part of the events that celebrate September 2008 as “Wild Salmon Month” in Vancouver

CRAFTS, ENTERTAINMENT, FOOD, WOODEN BOAT BUILDING, STILT WALKING, STORYTELLING,  ENVIRONMENTAL FAIR, FIRST NATIONS PARTICIPATION
